Sensory play for toddlers

Squish it. Mix it. Watch it fizz.

Seven tactile activities designed for the youngest kids — most under 20 minutes, all washable, all focused on the feeling as much as the result. Playdough, shaving cream, fizzing baking soda, and mess-free paint bags cover a wide range of textures without a wide range of cleanup.

Common questions

Questions parents ask

Which ones are safe for babies?

Pipe Cleaner Pull-Through and Egg Carton Pom-Pom Sort are both designed for under-2 with supervision. No paint, no liquid — just pulling and sorting.

Is shaving cream safe?

Foam shaving cream is non-toxic in small amounts. Keep it away from eyes and wash hands after. Sensitive-skin versions (fragrance-free) work if your child has reactive skin.

How do I make playdough at home?

Combine 2 cups flour, half a cup of salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 2 tablespoons oil, and 1.5 cups of boiling water. Knead until smooth. It lasts weeks in a sealed bag in the fridge.

Which one has the least cleanup?

Mess Free Color Mixing Bag — the paint never leaves the bag. Pipe Cleaner Pull-Through is also zero-mess. Fizzy Baking Soda Snowman has the most cleanup but the most wow factor.
